RED CROSS FACTS:

There are over 180 countries that provide Red Cross or the Red Cresent. In 1859, a traveler traeled to Solferino and saw nothing but dead people.

FACTS: CARE was founded in 1946

CARE is helping Indonesia after a massive earthquake devastated their country.

By giving notice to people to help

CARE was originally for survivors of World War I

PURPOSE/GOALS:

CARE's goal is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities and to increase access to clean water and sanitation.

Examples of AID:

CARE is helping the survivors of a marine earthquake in Indonesia


Peace Corps FACTS:

  • Begun in 1960 by John F. Kennedy Jr.
  • 169,000+ volunteers have servd
  • Presence has been in 136 countries worldwide from Paraguay to Fiji

PURPOSE/GOALS:

  • help people in developing world to improve their living conditions
  • help promote an understanding of Americans
  • help promote an understanding of other countries

  • Building a potable water system in El Salvador, Central America
  • HIV/AIDS education in Kenya, Africa

US AID

The goal is to give electricity to fifteen million people and to help the poor get an education.

An example of the work is that youth are installing solar panels at a community center in Brazil.
